  • What is therapy?

    Therapy is also known as talk therapy or psychotherapy, consisting of a structured meeting that occurs with a mental health professional. It is the type of treatment that works towards addressing emotional distress and mental health conditions.

  • What should I expect during my first session?

    During your first session you should expect to discuss your desire to initially start therapy, your background, and your mental health history. Your expected treatment plan and goals for therapy will also be discussed.

  • Is medication an option?

    Medication can sometimes go hand in hand with psychotherapy. However, licensed mental health counselors cannot prescribe medication. A referral to a prescribing provider can be made for you.

  • How can I benefit the most from therapy?

    Being honest, and being yourself goes a long way in therapy. Also, do your homework. Most of the work in therapy is done outside of the session. Lastly, remain consistent in your sessions, being present for sessions means you are showing up for yourself.

  • What is kept confidential?

    Confidentiality means everything discussed between a client and mental health professional, is kept between them. There are limitations to confidentiality. Such as, if the client is a threat to themselves or someone else. Ongoing child abuse or neglect is also required to be reported.
